The short version: your subscription list stays on your device. The Android app also creates a random device ID, which is used only for Ad Relief (described below). If you tap 'How to cancel…' and there's no saved link, a product name is sent to a search engine. You never need an account.

When you add a subscription — product name, price, account name, email, notes, and so on — it is saved on the device you're using (in the app's storage on Android, or in your browser's local storage on the web version). This data is never uploaded to Renuway or its developer. The only part of this data that can leave your device is a product name, if you tap 'How to cancel…' and no saved link exists (see "Network requests" below).
If you use Renuway on more than one device, each device keeps its own separate copy. Nothing syncs automatically between them.
Exchange rates (web and Android). To convert prices between currencies, the app fetches current exchange rates from a third-party service, open.er-api.com. This happens when you open the app and the cached rates are missing or older than 12 hours, when you change your display currency, and when you tap "refresh rates." Only a generic request for exchange rate data is sent — none of your subscription details, prices, or personal information are included. As with any internet request, the rates provider can see your device's IP address. The rates are cached on your device for up to 12 hours. If you have no internet connection, the app falls back to the last cached rates, or shows amounts in their original currency without conversion.
How to cancel… (web and Android). The "How to cancel…" menu item opens, in this order: a link you saved for that subscription; a built-in account page for well-known services; or, if neither exists, a web search at https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cancel%20[product name]%20subscription (the product name is URL-encoded). Renuway sends nothing itself and opens the page in a new tab, but with the search, DuckDuckGo receives the product name and can see your IP address, as with any web request. DuckDuckGo's own privacy policy applies to that search.
Ad Relief (Android only). The Android app also contacts Renuway's servers at renuway.com and Google AdMob for the Ad Relief feature, as described in the next section. The web version makes no such requests.
The Android version of Renuway includes an optional feature called Ad Relief, where you can choose to watch a short rewarded video ad. Ad Relief is currently an offset only: it shows how much of your monthly subscription cost watched ads would cover, and nothing is refunded or paid out. This feature is entirely opt-in — nothing happens unless you tap "Watch and offset" yourself.
Device ID. The app creates a random device ID (a UUID) on your device. On Android, the app sends it to renuway.com to look up your Ad Relief balance. Renuway stores it in a database (Supabase) together with your Ad Relief balance and a record of each reward.
Google AdMob. Ad Relief uses Google AdMob to serve ads. AdMob receives the same device ID, and after a rewarded ad finishes it sends a verification callback to renuway.com/api/admob-ssv. Details of that callback are temporarily written to our server logs. These logs are kept only briefly. Separately, AdMob may collect a device advertising ID and some general device and usage information (such as device type, general location at a country/region level, and ad interaction data) to show ads and comply with regional consent requirements. That is Google's own data collection for ad delivery. Where required (for example under GDPR for users in the EU/UK/EEA), you'll see a consent prompt before any ads load, and you can manage or withdraw that consent through the prompt or your device's ad settings.
Redemption email. Redemption is not open yet ("Redemption opens soon"). An email address is collected only if you tap Redeem, and only once redemption is available. Redemption may be introduced in future, and this policy will be updated before it opens.
The web version at renuway.com does not include ads, Ad Relief, or a device ID.
In Settings, "Download backup" creates a plain .json file containing your subscription data. On Android it is saved to your device's Documents folder. On the web version your browser saves it using its normal download behavior. It is not uploaded anywhere by the app. Anyone who opens a plain backup can read its contents.
You can also choose Download encrypted backup (PIN). An encrypted backup can only be restored with the same PIN, and there is no way to recover it if the PIN is forgotten.
You control where a backup file goes afterward (for example, if you move it to cloud storage or share it, that's outside the app's control). Store and share it the same way you would any personal document.
Uninstalling the app, clearing your browser's site data for this page, or clearing the app's storage will permanently delete your subscriptions from that device. They cannot be recovered unless you've saved a backup beforehand.
The Ad Relief balance and reward records stored against your device ID are held on our servers, not on your device. To request deletion, email support@renuway.com.
This app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only data the Android app itself sends is: the random device ID described above (to Renuway's servers, for Ad Relief); generic exchange-rate requests (to the rates provider); a product name to DuckDuckGo, only if you tap "How to cancel…" and no saved link exists; and, only if redemption is ever opened and you choose to redeem, an email address. Google AdMob separately collects its own data for ad delivery, as described above. You must be 18 or older to use Renuway.
